34-Year-Old Cricketer Passes Away from Heart Attack During Game in Ahmedabad, According to Reports

On February 26th, another tragic incident occurred in Ahmedabad, just six days after reports of two cricketers in Gujarat dying after playing cricket. Vasant Rathod, a senior state goods and service tax (SGST) department clerk, passed away while playing cricket.

According to reports, Vasant Rathod suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed while playing cricket at the playground of a dental college in Bhadaj near Ahmedabad. This marks the third such incident in the past 10 days in Gujarat.

As per a senior official of SGST quoted in Times of India, “During the match, Rathod’s team was fielding, he appeared to be fine when he was near the crease, bowling. However, he suddenly felt severe chest pain and collapsed. His fellow players rushed to his rescue.”

After collapsing, Rathod was first taken to the nearby dental college and then transferred to Sola Hospital. However, despite the efforts made by medical professionals, he passed away due to a drop in his oxygen levels.

According to the report, Rathod, who was 34 years old, lived in Vastapur and is survived by his wife, who works at the SGST head office in Ahmedabad.

Over the past 20 days, there have been five reported incidents of cricketers’ deaths. Among them was 27-year-old Prashant Bharolia, who complained of chest pain after playing cricket in Surat and later passed away, and Rajkot’s Jignesh Chauhan, who fell unconscious while playing cricket at Madhav Rao Scindia stadium and died later.
