Former Star Swimmer Found Dead in U.S. Virgin Islands, Police Launch Investigation

The U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating the death of Jamie Cail, a former star swimmer from New Hampshire. Cail, 42, was discovered dead by her boyfriend in their home just after midnight on Feb. 21.
A former star swimmer from New Hampshire, Jamie Cail, 42, was found dead in her home in the U.S. Virgin Islands, prompting an investigation by the local police department. According to reports, Cail’s boyfriend discovered her on the floor of their home after returning from a nearby bar, and rushed her to a nearby health center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to a statement released by the police department, CPR was administered and 911 was called when Jamie Cail was brought to the clinic, but unfortunately, she did not survive her ailment.
The authorities have not disclosed any details regarding the specific ailment that led to Jamie Cail’s death, and her boyfriend has not been publicly identified by the police.
NBC News’ attempts to obtain further information from the police department have been met with no immediate response.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the police department has taken charge of the investigation into the death of former star swimmer Jamie Cail, as per the police statement.
According to SwimSwam, Jamie Cail was part of the U.S. team at the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships and won a gold medal in the 800 free relay when she was still a teenager.
SwimSwam also reported that Cail was a champion at the California High School State Championships, where she won the 200 meter individual medley and the 500 free. She later swam for the University of Southern California in college.
Jamie Cail was a former swimmer for the University of Maine, as noted by the school’s alumni association. She represented the university from 2000 to 2001.
At the time of reporting, NBC News had not yet been able to establish contact with any of Jamie Cail’s family members on Monday morning.
