According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Irving, aged 30, is eager to depart from the Brooklyn Nets before the Feb. 9 trade deadline, otherwise he will exit through free agency in July.

Despite the recent rumors of trade, there were also reports that Irving was searching for a long-term contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets. The possibility of trading Irving is uncertain at this time. He is in the final year of a four-year contract worth over $136 million that he signed with the Brooklyn Nets after leaving the Boston Celtics as a free agent in July, 2019.

The magnitude of his wage might make it challenging to execute a trade within the restrictions of the NBA’s salary cap.

Kyrie, with his average of 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, has secured a spot as a starter in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. The Brooklyn Nets, with a record of 31-20, trail the Boston Celtics by 5.5 games in the Eastern Conference standings.

After being eliminated by the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs in 2022, the Brooklyn Nets have faced multiple trade demands from their star duo.
